(e) To ensure fairness, integrity and impartiality in all BMHS competition regarding judge familiarity, individual members must not compete under any BMHS panel judge with whom they have a personal or professional relationship that could reasonably be perceived as a conflict of interest. This includes, but is not limited to:
(i) family members, close friends, or individuals with whom the member has a longstanding personal relationship.
(ii) individuals with whom the member or their family or those who live at the same address has a current or recent professional relationship, such as trainers, coaches or business associates.
(iii) any individual with whom the member or their family or those who live at the same address has had a financial or voluntary show related relationship in the current or previous three years.
Individual members must avoid situations in which the public, or other competitors, may perceive the judge’s selection to be influenced, either consciously or sub-consciously, by prior familiarity with the participant or their horse.
This rule is to ensure all competitors receive fair and unbiased evaluation.
Members are required to comply with the spirit intended by this rule. Any infringement will result in automatic suspension of membership pending disciplinary action.
Measuring 2025
Measuring will ONLY take place at designated venues and dates.
Dates will be posted here as soon as they are finalised.
Measuring needs to be booked in advance by filling in the form in 'downloads' on this site and emailing it to the office, bmhsinfo@aol.com £10 for 1st horse, £5 for each additional horse non returnable. Payable at time of booking. This is to cover the travelling expenses of the measurers.
The ONLY shows where measuring will take place are the BMHS Spring Show and The BMHS Breed Show, both will be at Stretcholt.
It is the responsibility of the owner/handler to get horses measured.

Admittance to Stretcholt Farm
(BMHS Shows etc)
Please note that the owners of Stretcholt Farm will not allow on their premises any person who is currently banned from keeping/exhibiting horses by any recognised organisation/society/member of the British Equine Federation.
Registrations
The BMHS will no longer be issuing separate registration cards as the new style passport has all the required information printed in them.
Any horse in possession of an old style passport (pre 2016) will still need to send in registration cards for upgrading once they reach 4 years old.
Sensory Whisker Trimming
Sensory Whisker Trimming
The trimming of sensory whiskers (from 2022) within BMHS classes is at the discretion of exhibitors/owners. However, you should bear in mind that this rule may differ across other societies/individual shows rulings. Judges in BMHS classes will not penalise animals which are untrimmed.
Star Seeker Series
For 2025 Star Seeker classes will only be offered at the BMHS Spring Show. Details to follow.
Dress Code
RULE 8A – Dress code for showing British Miniature Horses in Royal International Horse Show (RIHS) and Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) qualifying classes and the championships themselves.
WOMEN AND MEN
Hats – velvet covered riding hat / beagler, a flat cap or a bowler.
Clothes – Ankle length smart trousers (any colour). Straight, knee length, navy or black or tweed skirts maybe worn with flesh coloured or navy or black tights. Tweed/twill showing jacket, navy or black showing jacket or black suit. Shirt and tie or stock MUST be worn. Ankle boots or lace up shoes. Waistcoats maybe worn but must be under a jacket. Neutral coloured gloves.
CHILDREN UNDER 14 YEARS
Showing jacket, trousers/jodphurs, jodhpur boots or suitable leather shoes. Shirt and tie. Riding hat with appropriate safety harness to the BS quality. Neutral coloured gloves.
EVENING PERFORMANCE WEAR
Men – black suit, white shirt, bow tie. Hat and/or gloves may be worn.
Women – Black trousers, black or white top/jacket. Arms must be covered. Hat and/or gloves may be worn.
Normal showing attire may be worn.
Passports
DEFRA have changed the cut off dates for passport application. You must now have all foals passported by the age of 6 months or by the November 30th of the year of birth, which ever is later. It is no longer December 31st.
This change is now in place for all foals born in 2018 and in the future.
