If your horse has died, it’s death must be reported to the relevant Passport Issuing Organisation within 30 days of the death. It is an offence to miss this deadline and you could face a fine from DEFRA.
If your horse has a BMHS passport, you will need to send the passport, with a letter giving the date of death and stating whether you would like to receive the passport back after processing to the BMHS Head Office.
Once we have processed the death, the passport will be invalidated. If you have requested the passport be returned, please note that the silhouette and Section II will be removed and kept with the BMHS. There is no charge for this service. You do not need to send us your registration card.
