To compete in Royal International Horse Show (RIHS) and Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) qualifying classes all horses must be measured annually and be the appropriate height for their age (see height chart). All horses competing in RI and HOYS qualifiers must be within the Standard or Mini category, horses falling into Maxi category are NOT eligible to compete in these classes.
Horses holding a life height certificate, which is attached to the passport, do not need measuring annually. Horses are eligible for such a certificate at the age of 7 years, provided they have been measured in height for the past 3 consecutive years.
Any over height horses will be unable to compete.
Measuring takes place at the start of the show season. The horse’s height is recorded in the passport. It is the owner/handler’s responsibility to get their horse measured before competing in qualifying classes. Failure to do so could lead to any qualification gained being invalid.
Maxi height horses are eligible for Star Seeker and Open BMHS classes. Horses do not need to be measured to enter these classes.
